Best UBS ETFs for European Investors: Complete 2026 Guide

Use the SRI ETF filter to separate the genuine ESG funds from the marketing labels.

Importantly, I write from an independent EU retail investor perspective. This is not regulated financial advice. For wider context see our European ETF providers comparison hub and the best green and ESG ETFs guide for the broader UBS SRI lineup. Additionally, see our editorial process and affiliate disclosure.

European investors seeking cost-effective diversification have found a powerful ally in UBS ETFs. Notably, the Swiss-headquartered index team excels at three things European buy-and-hold investors care about. First, they keep headline TERs low on flagship core exposures. Second, they run one of the deepest SRI (Socially Responsible Investment) UCITS ranges in Europe. Third, they offer both Luxembourg and Irish share classes side by side on the same underlying funds. In this guide, I walk through the UBS ETFs I actually consider for a European portfolio in 2026. Moreover, I explain why I pick them over peers. Crucially, I also show where they sit relative to the iShares range, the Vanguard UCITS range, and the broader provider field profiled in our European ETF providers comparison hub.

Why UBS ETFs Stand Out in 2026

UBS Asset Management ranks as one of the largest index ETF managers in Europe per the UBS Asset Management fund library. Notably, the firm runs a deep passive franchise across UCITS share classes. For European retail investors the practical implication is liquidity. In practice, the headline Core funds trade tightly on Xetra, SIX and Borsa Italiana. Moreover, the SRI suite has matured into multi-billion-euro vehicles rather than the niche products they were a decade ago. UBS prices core exposures in the same low band as iShares Core and Vanguard. Typically, flagship developed-market trackers sit around 0.10% TER. Consequently, UBS significantly undercuts many provider averages who charge 0.12% or more on equivalent UCITS wrappers. For details, see how the big two stack up in our Vanguard vs iShares deep-dive.

Selection criteria: the fund comparison criteria explains exactly how funds earn a place in this comparison.

All UBS ETFs follow UCITS regulations. Therefore, they apply hard diversification rules (5/10/40), daily transparency on holdings, and KID (Key Information Document) disclosures aligned with the EU PRIIPs regime. The team publishes KIDs and prospectuses for each share class in the UBS Asset Management fund library. Additionally, ESMA summarises EU-wide rules. By contrast, country-specific authorisation lookups sit on BaFin for German-resident readers. Moreover, the CySEC register lists the funds where they passport into Cyprus.

UBS Core ETFs: The Essential Building Blocks

UBS’s Core range is what most European DIY investors actually buy. Notably, the naming stays consistent: “UBS Core” + index + UCITS ETF + share class. Moreover, the cost structure competes with the iShares Core and Vanguard Core families on like-for-like exposures. In practice, three Core funds form the spine of most UBS-based portfolios I see. First, MSCI Europe handles the home-region tilt. Second, MSCI World captures global developed-market beta. Third, S&P 500 delivers the US single-country exposure that so many European Bogleheads stack on top of a world tracker.

UBS Core MSCI Europe UCITS ETF (LU0446734104)

The UBS Core MSCI Europe ETF tracks the MSCI Europe index as a Luxembourg-domiciled accumulating vehicle. Notably, it captures large- and mid-cap developed Europe across roughly 15 countries. ISIN LU0446734104 marks the established share class with deep secondary-market liquidity on Xetra, Borsa Italiana and SIX. For a European investor it serves a dual purpose. First, it acts as a home-region core. Second, it counterweights the US-heavy MSCI World. Importantly, you should cross-check current TER, AUM and tracking-difference figures on the fund’s justETF profile and the official KID in the UBS fund library.

UBS Core MSCI World UCITS ETF (IE00BD4TXV59)

The Irish-domiciled UBS Core MSCI World ETF (ISIN IE00BD4TXV59) tracks the MSCI World index. Notably, this index covers around 1,400+ large- and mid-cap stocks across 23 developed markets. For UCITS investors the Irish domicile matters because of the 15% US withholding tax rate. Crucially, this rate becomes available under the Ireland-US treaty on the underlying US equity component, which represents around 70% of the index. Moreover, this structural advantage also makes iShares CSPX, Vanguard VWRL and SPDR SPYL appealing. Importantly, the UBS MSCI World share class participates in it. For tracking quality and full holdings I cross-reference justETF alongside Morningstar UK. For a deeper MSCI World provider shootout see our dedicated best MSCI World ETFs for European investors comparison.

UBS Core S&P 500 UCITS ETF (IE00B7K93397)

The UBS Core S&P 500 UCITS ETF (ISIN IE00B7K93397) is the Irish-domiciled physical replicator. Notably, it gives European investors single-country US large-cap exposure at a TER in the cheapest UCITS S&P 500 band. Functionally, it competes with iShares CSPX, SPDR SPYL/SPY5 and Invesco SPXP. The UBS share class tends to attract investors who already use the rest of the UBS Core line. Moreover, they prefer keeping the operational stack with one issuer. Methodology notes for the index sit on the MSCI indexes site (for the family-level SRI screen). Additionally, ETF.com summarises the underlying S&P methodology.

Specialized UBS ETFs for Targeted Exposure

Beyond the Core funds, UBS runs a deep specialist bench. Notably, it covers value, EMU, gold miners, real estate, fixed income and an extensive SRI suite. For peer tactical building blocks see the best State Street SPDR ETFs for Europe. Additionally, see the clean energy ETFs guide for thematic neighbours.

UBS MSCI EMU Value UCITS ETF (LU0446734369)

The MSCI EMU Value share class (ISIN LU0446734369) delivers Eurozone-only value-factor exposure. Notably, it suits European investors who want a factor tilt without taking on UK or Swiss currency risk. The factor methodology follows the standard MSCI value model. Specifically, it uses price-to-book, forward price-to-earnings and dividend yield. Importantly, this is a satellite, not a core holding. In practice, it works best paired with the UBS Core MSCI Europe ETF as the broader anchor.

UBS Solactive Global Pure Gold Miners UCITS ETF (IE00B7KMNP07)

The UBS Solactive Global Pure Gold Miners ETF (ISIN IE00B7KMNP07) is one of the few UCITS-wrapped pure-play gold mining trackers available to European investors. Notably, it acts as a high-volatility satellite. In practice, it behaves more like leveraged exposure to the gold price than like the metal itself. Use sparingly. Importantly, my own ceiling on this kind of single-theme position sits firmly in single-digit percentages.

Fixed Income Solutions from UBS

UBS has built out a respectable fixed-income UCITS bench. Notably, it covers EUR government bonds, EUR corporate IG, US Treasury and TIPS exposure, and a growing green-bond sleeve. For the structural design choices see our European fixed-income ETFs complete guide. Crucially, it compares the UBS bond range against iShares, Vanguard and Amundi on the same axes.

Opening Your UBS ETF Account with Freedom24

UBS ETFs reach every major EU retail broker. Freedom24 is one of the brokers I personally use for European-listed UCITS access. Notably, it is CySEC-regulated and EU-wide passported. For a broader comparison of EU broker options see our EU ETF broker hub.

Building Your UBS ETF Portfolio Strategy

Core-satellite is the framework I default to. The wider Boglehead-style index investing approach, summarised on the Bogleheads three-fund portfolio wiki, maps cleanly onto the UBS Core lineup. For more on portfolio composition see our balanced ETF portfolio guide. Importantly, to validate any candidate fund I cross-reference ETF.com alongside justETF and Morningstar UK.

UBS’s lineup spans both Luxembourg-domiciled (LU prefix) and Irish-domiciled (IE prefix) share classes. Our Irish vs Luxembourg ETF tax-efficiency guide covers the practical tax difference. Moreover, ESMA sets the regulatory backdrop at the EU level. Additionally, national regulators such as BaFin handle the marketing-passport side.

UBS SRI screening: how the methodology actually works in practice

The UBS SRI ETF range tracks MSCI SRI Low Carbon Select indices. Notably, these apply a two-step filter on top of the parent MSCI World, USA, EMU, and other universes. First, step one applies a values-based exclusion screen. Second, step two runs a best-in-class ESG selection that picks the top 25% of remaining issuers per sector by ESG rating. Then it applies a low-carbon transition tilt overlay. Our smart ESG ETFs guide compares UBS SRI funds against iShares ESG and Amundi peers head-to-head.

Luxembourg vs Ireland: why some UBS ETFs use IE and others LU

Luxembourg has a deep UCITS fund ecosystem and a mature regulator (CSSF). Therefore, UBS originally domiciled most of its index range there. By contrast, Ireland’s appeal lies in the 15% reduced US dividend withholding rate. Crucially, this rate is available to Irish UCITS funds under the Ireland-US tax treaty. Consequently, UBS migrated MSCI World (IE00BD4TXV59) and S&P 500 (IE00B7K93397) into Irish wrappers.

Securities lending at UBS: how much, what risk, who gets the income

UBS engages in securities lending. Notably, the firm caps on-loan exposure at conservative percentages of NAV per the fund prospectus. Moreover, collateral runs over-collateralised at 102-105%. Importantly, the revenue split favours the fund. The annual report and factsheets on the UBS Asset Management fund library publish full disclosure.

UBS ETFs FAQ for European investors

How does UBS’s SRI screening method actually compare to a plain ESG fund?

UBS SRI ETFs follow MSCI SRI Low Carbon Select indices. Notably, they combine values-based exclusions with a best-in-class selection of the top 25% of issuers by ESG rating per sector. Moreover, a low-carbon tilt sits on top.

Are UBS currency-hedged share classes worth the extra fee?

Hedged share classes add 5 to 20 basis points to the TER. For long-horizon equity investors the evidence suggests hedging adds cost without reducing long-term risk meaningfully.

Are UBS Luxembourg-domiciled ETFs less tax-efficient than the Irish ones?

For pure European equity products, LU vs IE is structurally neutral. By contrast, for US-heavy products Irish domicile carries a real advantage. Crucially, this stems from the 15% Ireland-US treaty rate.

How does the UBS SRI range compare to iShares MSCI World SRI?

Both funds track the same MSCI World SRI Select index family. Differences come down to TER, tracking difference and liquidity on your home exchange.

Does UBS lend out securities from its ETFs and is that a risk?

Yes, with conservative caps, over-collateralisation and a revenue split that favours the fund’s NAV.

Where can I actually buy UBS ETFs from a regulated EU broker?

All UBS UCITS ETFs trade on Xetra, SIX, Borsa Italiana and Euronext via Freedom24, IBKR, Trade Republic and XTB. See our EU ETF broker hub.

Is Kestutis Balciunas a regulated financial advisor?

No. Independent EU retail investor and educator with 11+ years experience, not FCA/BaFin/CySEC/AMF-regulated.

Check the treaty maths yourself: the free ETF withholding tax calculator shows what an Irish-domiciled fund recovers on US dividends that a Luxembourg one does not.
